A note on the terminology used for armour: the stuff made from linked rings is simply called "mail" (from the Latin word 'macula' = mesh or net) "Chain mail" "plate mail" and "ring mail" are strange Nineteenth Century antiquarian constructions based on the idea that the word "mail" meant "armour". It didn't. Mail is mail and plate is plate - there's no such thing as "ring mail" or "plate mail", let alone "banded mail" or "scale mail". These terms have become popularised because they were revived by Gary Gygax when he come up with Dungeons and Dragons, but they are incorrect.
