Does anyone know if or how you can play MM8 using Windows 7? I can not even get the game to install from cd, let alone play it. If someone knows how to do this, could you please let me know. Thanks!

Installing

Some people can install these games easily on modern computers, but others have had trouble because some of the new CD/DVD read/write drives do not "like" the old CDs that the games are on. However, if that is what's causing your problem, I don't know what you would do about it, short of putting an old-style CD reader into your computer.

I had no issues on Win7 with either VI/VII/VIII. Does the autoplay pop up and start? I would try first to open the CD Computer icon.

Find the setup and use Run as Admin. If that does not work, then use a flash/external drive and copy the whole directory from your old system.

I had to do that with Warlords III DLR.

Win7 with VI/VII/VIII

Yes, the autoplay does pop up but when I click the "install" button, the cd drive starts making bad noises and won't stop. I finally had to pop it open to get the cd out, thinking this might break something! Should I try open the cd icon and run setup as admin? I can not copy it from my old computer, because my old computer is finished! What should I do?

Well, do you think I should try run the setup as admin? Will the cdrom freak out? I have not tried it yet, because I don't want this to happen. I tried all the MM series and none of the installs would work. It does bring up the install screen though. I do not have any other copies.

If the cd cannot be read, admin won't help.

Cd drive

I haven't had this exact problem but I think your cd drive is having problems reading the disk. Years ago i took a drive apart to see what was wrong. There was a rubber disk that I think pressed down on the cd to grip it. Mine had become stiff and wouldn't grip the disk. I cleaned the cds and applied strips of scotch tape around the center hole to give a little more traction and to build the disk up. It worked well enough to copy the disks to my hard drive. My Wiz 8 disks still have the tape on them. Hope this helps.

This is not a Windows 7 problem

I had the identical problem in XP, although mine was with the Millennium edition. It kept telling me the disk was bad and it was not (worked fine on another computer). The problem is with the CD drive.

You say your old computer is shot. Is the CD drive on it shot? If not, rip it out of the case and plug it into your new computer. You will probably need to find a driver for it as well (should be one online somewhere).

See if that solves the problem.

(Hi all, long time no see. I've been playing Baldur's Gate...)
