Whew! It's good to be home

I've been out of the hospital for a week now, and am I glad! The week before, I sat down to Sunday breakfast: a French omelet (Sunday's breakfast treat) I'd made, with Havarti Cheese, avocado, and mushrooms. The next thing I knew, several burly men were carrying me in a litter out the front door to a waiting ambulance. (Papa and Baby Elf later explained that I'd passed out before eating a bite, but that Papa had caught me before I hit the floor. They kept me for four days. Why had I passed out? From lack of salt, of all things! After being lectured on consuming too much sodium for years, now they're feeding it to me. I'd had recent dental surgery, and was lacking any molars and opposing grinding teeth, so that I've essentially been on a liquid/soft food diet since the last week of February. I'd counted on getting my new bridgework for my birthday, but no such luck. Oh well. When I do get them (scheduled for next week,) we're going for lunch at the best pizzeria in town, with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to wash it down--worth waiting for! (Incidentally, I'm now 87. Wow that's old!) I'd have notified you all sooner, but somehow my entire computer contents were corrupted by the gremlins that do such things. I couldn't persuade any of the gatekeepers of my URL that I was who I said I was. It was a long, (two-day) process, but everything is (mostly) restored. The bruises from not-very-skillful "lab vampires" (hospital blood-takers) are mostly gone, and all the puncture wounds from them have mostly healed. Love to you all,
    Elf

Though East Kent Golding are mighty tasty, too! Sorry Germany, I love both your "Tall blondes from Munich" and your Kindle--sorry, but my old age won't give me the rest of the title. It's what's on sale at a little pub in the Frankfort airport. Anyway, it's mighty fine. Mit gaz, bitte!

A similar thing happened to me about 20 years ago, except the cause was that I had become dehydrated. I was sitting in a meeting, and the next thing I knew was that they were carrying me out. Followed by 24 hrs on a saline drip. The thing that offended me was that a nurse asked me what my breakfast meal had been, and was halfway through writing "Poor" before I could open my mouth. She was politely remonstrated with *Grrrr*

You take good care of yourself!

. . . a wonderful brew pub just a short metro ride from Prague. . . actually much better than some of the more famous brews available worldwide.

(And luckily, we can get the ORIGINAL "beer of kings" at some locations here Stateside. (Tr_d_r J__'s comes to mind.)

OMG sweet Elf please take care and stay healthy! Glad to hear you are home again. Best of luck with the dental work. That alone would give me nightmares! <3

Thank you, dear Chlala. I now have a full mouthful of teeth, and am doing well (so far!)
Here in the U. S. (and probably a lot of other countries) are awed by being able to see the Northern Lights overhead--very rare for this latitude! (Solar flare activity.) Unfortunately, we haven't been able to see them from our Elf abode--too many trees in the way, I suppose. I got to wondering: how did the ancient Norse peoples interpret the aurora? Frigga's gown, perhaps? Woden's royal robes?

Actually, I have seen the aurora, but farther south in California, down in Bakersfield. It was sometime in the 1950's, I can't remember exactly when. I was just a young kid then. They looked like vast red curtains rippling in the sky--no other colors, just red. Probably because of red's longer wavelength? It was quite dramatic, and unforgettable.
