How is the experience point calculated?

2 basic questions that I have wanted to ask for a long time.

    1. Do you get experience by causing damage to the enemy or whoever finally kill the enemy get all the experience points for the kill.

    2. When you complete a quest, will all members share the experience point equally?

In my opinion, whenever you gain XP it is distributed equally amongst all who live at the moment.

And, IIRC, if the XP gain is not divisible by the number of living characters, the remainder is distributed from the left. (So some characters can get 1 XP more than others.) But that's just a nitpick.

xp

As far as I can work out, xp works as follows
The XP value of all the monsters in the combat that you killed is totalled.
THis is then multiplied by any NPC bonuses
THe XP is then divided amongst all the characters living at the end of the combat
Each character receives this share of XP multiplied by their learning skill bonus (1.09 + 0.01 * effective learning skill rank) where effective learning skill rank is learning skill at normal learning, 2x learning skill at expert learning and 3x learning skill at master learning

Yes, that is probably as complete as it can be.

That's almost right

Substitute "active" for "living". Anyone dead (in any of its variants – dead, eradicated, stoned), unconscious, asleep, or paralyzed when a monster is killed gets no share of its points.

    1. When you complete a quest (and report it to the one who gave the quest to you) all members a fixed experience point, e.g 10,000 regardless of the fact that they may have small difference in level of learning skills + the presence of a scholar who is supposed to increase their experience gain.

    2. When you hit a monster and a damage is shown in the screen, no experience point is gained. When you kill a monster, then everyone get some experience points but the amount gained is affected by the level of learning skill (+ effect of instructor?)

Hence my knight who has a slightly higher learning skill level actually has almost 1% higher experience than the rest of the team even though he did not hit the monster that often.

Everyone does get experience for quests completed, however. Dead or alive.

For those who've played a solo game, it's interesting to compare the exp levels for the living character vs. the dead characters. I have a tendency to re-use saved games so I don't seem to have the end of either of my solo games, but I did find a solo wizard game in which it looks like I spent a few years clearing zones. The last quest it shows is 'gained access to the control center.' The dead characters have 1,578,000 exp and the live one has over 58 million.

Somebody else whose done a solo probably has better numbers. Oddly enough, I can't find any game that shows a completed quest beyond 'gained access to the control center,' though I've completed this game many, many times.

. . . Klaravoyia's party was up at a level somewhere between 400 and 500, and I have a distant recollection of someone else who said he had a party considerably beyond that. A figure of 700+ comes to mind, but please don't take that as solid fact. And those were 4-member parties, not solo runs.

I've no idea what experience level that translates to!

I have a party at 453 and Chandor took one to 871,

level 453 is something over 102 million exp. But I was more talking about the 'dead' characters in a solo game and the exp they get from quests. In the game I mentioned above the dead characters have enough exp to train to level 56, but I don't think that game was complete.

I was wondering if anyone who completed a solo game had better stats on what a dead character gets for all the quests through the whole game.

I think that dragon is cool but too overpowered
so i can balance this overpowerment and both try out a smaller sized party then 4-5 . MM8 also allows you just to keep
characters in the adventure inn ,which just is looking better
then carrying fallen comrades around as in MM6-7

Yes, dead characters do earn experience points...

By luck, I found a solo knight game that I played in 2004. The level 67 solo knight earned 3,605,811 experience points. However, his dead partners who had never done anything still get some experience points - Warrior Mage 951229; Archmages 943304; Priest 940310).

I guess it is a strong proof that:
    1. Experience points can be earned not via killing monsters but just through completing quest by one of the party members.
    2. Even dead characters can earn experience points through quest but the point they earn will be influenced by their background - That is why dead characters get different experience points even though they were all dead since the first minutes.
