Windows 10, anyone? 08/10/2015, 00:31:31

Has anyone changed over to Win10 yet? I'm still playing MM10, and just got my notice that 10 was downloaded and ready to install. Microsoft, with its demonstrated keen appreciation of games and gamers (not!) hasn't said a word about any possible game conflicts. But then, I guess that might not be possible, since there are so many, many games out there, with all sorts of configurations and requirements. Needless to say, I'm not switching over until it appears that all future games will require it, or that it miraculously plays nicely with all the old games we all love.Yeah, I know I swore (at and off) MM10, but have heard that the DLC's make it all worthwhile. I've learned to anticipate and work around most of the familiar crashes. (If the action starts to get a little too herky-jerky, stop and reboot. If it crashes to Steam, just hit the Escape key, and like as not it will go right back to where you left off.) One thing has me puzzled, though. The secret doors now apparently flatly will not work with the lead character. (This was never a problem before, but I've started a new party.) For example, my Might 60 Orc Barbarian simply cannot open a secret door with a Might symbol on it, but the Might 40 Defender or Hunter next to him can open it with ease. Tain't natural, tain't fair, tain't normal, tain't fittin', to misquote my favorite slacker in "Poldark."

Ah — the "Something happened" error strikes again 08/10/2015, 04:54:16

I've been advised against upgrading by two of my friends. The wife of one of them found that Win10 was incompatible with Outlook – apparently she could receive emails, but not send them. The other tried to upgrade, and encountered numerous problems typified by the error message above. Among them were incompatibilities with the AVG security package and others that I cannot remember off-hand. He's now gone back to Win8.1. It may be different if you get a new computer with a clean install of Win10 as the original operating system, but everybody I've spoken to says that the upgrades don't work well, and in some cases don't work at all.

I shall proceed with utmost caution. (Translation: I won't install Win10 until there are no more games left to play in my Steam queue. My parents both died at age 81, so I think I've got a lifetime supply of unplayed games.)

if a for-profit company tries to push freeware on you, on principle I'm staying clear. I'm not aware of any feature of Win10 I actually want, and what I got ain't broke, so.........

Microsoft just made it too darn *easy*. You didn't even have to go looking to download it - a Windows icon just turned up one day in my Win7 taskbar, begging to be used. Find & fix your own damn bugs

It's not just that the icon turned up in the Taskbar, but . . . 08/19/2015, 13:28:26

. . . when I turn the machine on in the morning, there's an actual small Window that pops up begging me to download the damned thing, and I have to close it. I'd love to get rid of the icon, but I'm 95% sure it would just reappear.
