Ribannah's had a look at the game, and came to the same conclusion you did - way too many bugs.

As I keep saying, I want more M&M, & the best way to ensure that is for all fans to rush out & support this in numbers. But I just can't in good conscience recommend it. Maybe one day after a few patches it will be worth the time. Right now, it's sloppy, lazy, buggy, & a good few months of polishing from being acceptable for sale.

The most vocal supporters on the Ubi forums appear to be the younger generation who have unfortunately grown up expecting that games are now released with an unacceptable number of bugs, and eventually they'll get patched to something resembling an acceptable product - hopefully. So just be patient & stop whinging, because "they're working on it". But for those who expect the "working on it" to have been done before release, the world has moved on unfortunately.

In the days pre mass internet, there was really no chance to "fix" a game once released, so there was a need to get it right. And guess what - games were released without all these bugs. Now, the focus is to get it out. Then we'll let the *customers* work out what still needs to be done. Too easy, IMO.

Then forcing additional needless programming such as Uplay on customers just multiplies the opportunities for something to go wrong - so far it causes savegame corruptions as well as one of the game-killing mainline quest bugs. In future I would buy the game & download a pirated version not requiring a client. But I won't be giving any more money to Ubisoft anyway.

. re: today's younger gamers expecting bugs, crashes, glitches, etc. in the newer games. The best-selling RPG since 2011 is That Other Game (_ld_r Scr_lls Sk_r_m,) which, being by Bethesda, was released virtually bug-free. AFAIK, the updates have mostly been tweaks, perks, and other positive things instead of "bug spray." I'm taking your advice and holding off playing the game for a few weeks, hoping the wrinkles will be ironed out by then. For now, I'll play a little MM6 between bouts of fighting off the Vampire Lord and acquiring more Tamriel real estate.

The huge releases that publishers know will have wide appeal - Skyrim, Diablo, WoW etc - do indeed seem to be released relatively bug-free. But for less mainstream titles - which MM is definitely considered, as well as BloodBowl in recent times - the attitude seems to be "well you didn't expect it to actually be complete at release, did you?".

Enjoy your return to MM6 & hopefully in a month or two you will be able to transition seamlessly into an enjoyable playthrough of MMX!

These days, it seems there's always time to do something twice, . . .
