I've actually gotten two Clanker's Amulets in the game. One in the lab and the other (IIRC) in a chest somewhere. So, how's this: The eyes take over the lab, kick him out, wound him, he flees for his life, whatever...his precious amulet gets stolen from him by the eyes and he can't get it back, so goes off into hiding somewhere near where I found the second amulet, somewhere along the line becoming a lich or some other undead creature (hence the line about not being the same after he died), and in his afterlife creates a second amulet for himself. But obviously something else happened to him at some point or I wouldn't have found the second amulet just lying about in a chest or something. But I do get the impression that whatever went down with this guy was before the game takes place. So what do you guys think?
