Hmmm. So you can loot newly killed monsters, just not the previous ones?

    This might mean that there's corruption in your game files. I can imagine that the game would abort when you tried to loot a body if an invalid item number is being generated upon death. Save your savegame files, uninstall the game and re-install in Safe Mode.
