Good, possibly great news! As a pre-birthday gift, Papa Elf got me the deluxe edition of MM-X. (MMX looks too much like Roman numerals.) We're waiting till tonight to install it, since it takes 11+ hours. Since it is the deluxe edition (only $5 US extra - the whole thing costing $29.99 US, which is about half what most new games cost these days.
Bad news: since it's been nearly 15 years since I've been able to play the game, I've forgotten the keyboard commands. (This makes the third copy of the game I will have bought. The first was the boxed edition on the 3-1/2" disks, the second the CD bundle with all the MM's through MM8.) I know it's taboo to give game commands in the Tavern, for good reason. There is no manual with the game, not even online. I've figured out through trial and error how to move and cast spells, but now I'm stumped. There is an upraised hand in a "Stop!" position in the lower right corner of the screen, making it impossible to move beyond turning in place. BTW, I seem to be in turn-based mode. So will some kindly soul please e-mail me with the keyboard commands? There's a free keg of elf ale in it for you! Thank you very much.
Very ironic: I know where to find the "Fly" scroll in New Sorpigal and how to get to the "secret" lair of JVC, but I can't even figure out how to run, fight, or any of that good stuff. Help!
