. . . GM Protection from Magic up and running when you tackled Tolberti? If you had, then I would expect you to have had very little trouble. If you hadn't, then IIRC it's not unusual to lose your whole party to Tolberti (or Robert the Wise, depending on whether you're running the Light or Dark Path). Either one can kill one of your characters instantly, which is a considerable problem if you're running a solo character with no access to Body magic at the GM level. I don't know for certain, but from what I can see from the spell descriptions, Protection from Magic cast by a character with GM Body magic might possibly be better than that obtained from a character casting GM Day of Protection. There is no mention that the latter gives immunity to magic-based instant death spells. It might be included, but it doesn't say so.
