Game freezes on load

I seem to be having the same issues as a number of other previous posters, though their fixes don't seem to be working for me. I've installed MM9 on a Vista machine with an ATI Radeon video card (drivers are current). I installed the 1.2 patch, followed by 1.3a.

As other people have described, the game launches fine, but as soon as I create my party and it tries to load into the game, the boat freezes and nothing happens. I've installed Mok's cshell.dll. I've tried playing in compatibility mode (including various permutations of XP SP2, Windows 2000, and Administrator mode). I've tried banging my head on the keyboard (unsurprisingly, it didn't help).

Now, this is my primary work/gaming computer, so downgrading DirectX and/or video drivers isn't really an option. If it makes any difference, I'm running the M&M Platinum version of MM9.

    Any ideas? I'm open to anything. I'm on a run. I just beat 6, 7, and 8, and now 9 won't work!

We're not ignoring you...

... it's just that you've obviously done your research and already tried almost everything that we'd suggest. It's also obvious that Ubisoft doesn't care a bit about the M&M RPG fans or franchise, otherwise they would have fixed the multiple problems with the game on older systems.

There are two things that I can suggest you look into. If you've previous installed the game, uninstalled and re-installed in a new location, then there might be old registry entries that are confusing the game. You would need to find and remover those manually. Yuck.

The other suggestion would be to run the game from a FAT32 partition if you're not already. Inasmuch as you would need to uninstall the game in the process, scan the registry after doing so to avoid leaving artifacts.

Best of luck. Please let us know what you try and what (if anything) works.

Unfortunately...

Unfortunately, this is the first time I've ever installed this game. Also, I don't have any drives that are formatted to FAT32 (everything is NTFS). Unless, of course, I install on a keydrive, and I don't even know if that'll work.

I'm a big fan of partitions....

Personally, I would have no trouble re-partitioning an existing drive, or tossing in an old hard drive (and perhaps an IDE interface card) to format with FAT32, but I see no reason that a 4Gb keydrive wouldn't work.
