    Hello

Has any1 actually encountered the white goblin or is it just a myth?

    How did the myth originate?

I know something about it, but not everything.

Sorry to disappoint you, but it's a myth. It is, however, a very interesting myth. This is as I remember it; if I've got it wrong, will those who remember it better please correct me? Thanks!

Hello, Joy, and welcome! We hope you have a lot of fun with these games, which in our (admittedly biased) opinion, are some of the most enjoyable ever written.

If you have a look at the map of Erathia in the Might & Magic VII (MM7) game, you will see an island called Vori in the NW corner of the map. This was not used in the MM7 game, but soon after the game was published, rumours began to circulate that this was the home of the White Goblin. Hints appeared of secret tunnels and passageways that could be found in the main island of Erathia that gave access to this land. When you got there, there was a completely undocumented endgame to be played. There were all sorts of hints, clues, fragments of information and so on to tease and tantalise the hapless players who wanted nothing more than to find and play this wonderful endgame. A huge number of blind alleys were followed, leading to nothing but dead ends, and unfortunately everybody's efforts came ultimately to naught.

It didn't stop there; MM6 was revisited, and more rumours started up about the tall brown conical spires found in some of the map segments, and ways of entering them. I remember that one of them involved a door at the top of one of the Dragon Towers — I think it was the one in the Frozen North. These too came to nothing.

Frustrating it may have been but, looking on the bright side, it occupied a goodly number of people for a fair amount of time, it gave a certain amount of fun, and you had to admire that ingenuity of the people who made up the rumours.

And as a final addendum, I proved to my own satisfaction that we were all chasing a will-o-the-wisp. I downloaded a hex editor and went through all the data files in the games metaphorically with a fine-toothed comb. There was nary a trace of any hidden entrances, secret passageways or mysterious treasures other than those we had found, apart from a few that had been used for local testing during the construction of the game and had never been removed.

White goblin

Bummer, it's always a bummer when myths are proven false.

I remember being in GTA San Andreas myths growing up and seeing the same conversation about game files. Some myth hunters proposed that the game files associated with the myhts were encrypted or some sort of "ghost files". I think the "ghost files" hypothesis is a bit too far fetched for MM6, esp given the age of the game.

I originally saw the white goblin myth here:
    https://www.angelfire.com/ns/flute/spoilers.html

It involves the flute in the Dragoon's caverns, the NS buoy resetting the zone (????), the Kriegspire drakes, the so-called "Grey Magic" skill and a NWC-esque dungeon who has all the spells for Grey Magic.

Here is another thread about the white goblin in this forum dating back in 2008.
    https://telp.org/mm6/tavern/anyboard/posts/39427.html

I also downloaded some tools for the MM6 assets and likewise saw no assets relating to any white goblin or grey magic.

IDK but video game myth hunting brings up some of the strangest ideas in people's minds. If you want a chuckle, i suggest checking LeatherIceCream's series on GTA Myths. It's hilarious.
