Not necessarily

Expert effectively doubles your skill level, and Master triples it, but it is still possible for the level of a trap to be set above 21, and from memory, those are. I can't remember how high you have to go to open the chests without setting the traps off.

[As an aside, the Horn of Ros, in one of those chests, is very useful. I used an editor once to get the Horn of Ros so that I could find out how many hit points Q had. The answer, if you're interested, was 16,000. No wonder he takes some time to kill! He's the only monster in the game who I've been unable to kill purely with Shrapmetal spells; my characters run out of spell points before he drops.]

Similarly, there's a door in the Superior Temple of Baa that requires an astronomical Perception level to get through – Master alone won't go near it. You can get through it if you push your Perception high enough (I did it once), but there are other routes to the corridors behind it, and I don't generally bother with opening the door.

In my experience you have to get to level 13 Master before you can disarm everything, I don't thnk I've ever found a chest that that didn't disarm

I generally try to get master plus an item of thievery.

That may be about equivalent to level 13 - not sure. With anything less some chests are going to blow up. Also, the ones in Q's room seem to be the toughest. I thought it was possible to have those blow up even with master and an item of thievery, but I'm not sure about that.

You are right, it takes more than master + an item of thievery ...

Which is what I had in the room of Q.

As for the door in the temple, I kind of remember someone in here reported that it can be opened with expert level of perception.

Or is it another door? I am not sure. It has been a long, long time since I read that post.

That must be another door.

If I remember, there were door like this (requiring something like Expert Perception 4 or 5), but they were right behind the front gate, so it wasn't possible to proceed without going through them.

(Or was it? Or is my memory deceiving me? Who knows ... )

There are a number of doors in the entrance hall behind the front gate

All but one can be opened by someone with expert Perception, but that odd one needs a lot more than Master.
