Gosh-darn fixes! 06/17/2013, 12:46:35

Got a new lap-top and what's the first thing one does? Get MM6, 7 & 8, obviously! With 5 different casings but not one coplete set of Install & Play-discs, I resorted to pirate bay... *bows head in shame*... Well, apart from the shamey part, I actually found a very nice complete package containing MM 1-9 in one zip-file, fully functional with the music playing right and all, built-in dosbox, the whole shabang. But they fixed my exploits! No Hall of the Fire Lord XP bug, no Obelixs crate-bug! It's killing me, really, I don't think I've ever played at this difficulty :/

I have also bought notebook with new Windows 8 .
I can not really get my old CDs right now, they are sold out and 3 DO versions of MM 6 to 9 .
Think I must to buy games from GOG ,though I have never had exp with GOG's versions of MM ,neither with Win 8 .
Also I like TCC and Rev4 mods .
Any ideas on compabilities ,patches, install preferences are be very welcomed

I'm still running the v1.0 MM6-8 games on an old machine which has a Win98 partition. The "features" in that version of MM6 mean I could (if I wanted) teach a druid dark magic, and equip my sorcerer with plate armour and a nice big axe, all without resorting to a character editor. *evil grin*

- not sure sorcerers are effective in plate due to the recovery slow down .I stick to the versions above v1.0
About Win 8 : idk , but mine old Win 7 was good to MM 6-9 ,better then some other versions of Windows ,it had all required old programs imo ,something akin to the emulators in Dos-box .

As for fixes etc, I actually seem to be doing alright... Who'd've known it could be so much fun playing the game as it was intended

P.S. The GOG discs are fine in my experience. I have (had) 1x6, 2x7, 2x8 and 1x9 form GOG iirc... 06/19/2013, 12:27:40

However, having at least 2 copies(with various CDs missing) of each of the MM6-9 games (as well as the very unrelated 10), I felt not so piraty for downloading them to be honest - I've certainly contributed a pretty penny by now

If someone has bought the games and not sold the discs on, then . . . 06/20/2013, 07:46:28

. . . IMO they're absolutely entitled to get them as a download from GOG. It's very little different from taking a back-up of a CD in case it gets damaged or corrupted.Somewhere, I've still got the original floppies of MM4 & MM5, although I doubt if they're readable by now. I don't have the original MM3 discs any more, but I came across the back-ups some years ago.

I am old school. By now, there are only two regulars (or even semi-regulars) in the Taverns who are older than I am.

Yeah that's my point exactly - most of my discs are either worn down (yes, that CAN happen) - or my kids threw them away (or I did?) 06/20/2013, 08:09:59

And yeah, I've noticed how there are only a few oldies left in here - I spotted you and Chlala so far... Honestly, I'm amazed this game still has so many devoted players...but playing it again, I see why...it really is a very playable game, compared to a lot of the newer games, like... Diablo 3, that one just died after 1½ run-through :S

My early visits were severely limited, because my only access in those days was via a dial-up modem, and a serious session of question and answer cost a small fortune. 08/05/2013, 19:21:28

Broadband vs. dial-up. My first fulltime ISP was a flat rate fee for all kinds of connections. Less than $10 a month for dial-up at the time, but unlimited access at that rate. 08/05/2013, 20:01:06

To be fair, it wasn't the site that did the damage, it was the 'phone bills. 08/06/2013, 04:07:14
