Starting a MM3 run

Hello all. I've been gone a while, but I've decided to start the MM run again with MM3. I choose MM3 because that game has auto-mapping and better graphics. I have some questions for the folks here:

    1. Which Tavern do you want MM3 thru MM5 questions posted?

    2. I dimly recall MM3 had a patch. Does anyone know where it can be found now?

    Thank you!

    P.S. Greetings to Peter2 !!

And greetings to you, too! Good to hear from you again.

We usually put all the stuff about the pre-MM6 games in the MM6 Tavern, that being the oldest of the Taverns.

TTBOMK no separate patch was issued for MM3, because it was released in 1991, long before the internet became as all-pervasive as it is now. But the original game code was later amended to eliminate at least some of the bugs. I don't know when this replaced the v1.0, but that is the game that appears in the compilations like the "MM Classics" bundled with MM6 in the Might & Magic VI Limited Edition. That is the one I now play.

I still have the original game on one of my old drives, but I don't play it nowadays, and I don't have the original floppies any more, although I may have my backups squirreled away somewhere. Whether they'd still be readable is another matter, and these days, most people would probably have to buy a plug-in 3.5" floppy drive to even try!

Good luck, enjoy the game, and yell if you need help.

MM3 bug

Yes, the crystals in the pyramids late in the game would age you a LOT!! You were so old that just resting would kill you. The FoY would not remove the aging. And since you only have one Savegame... it was game over for me. This run I'm going to try and avoid that game killer. I thought either NWC or 3DO had patched that, but I'm probably wrong.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that one has been changed

It's very quick and easy to save in this game if you do it via the keyboard, so I save before every crystal when I'm in there, because some of the rear ones in the double sets are actually useful.

The really bad bug was linked to 4 squares just north of the Tomb of Terror. If you entered any of those, the game would crash and hang the computer. The only way out was to unplug the computer. However, each time you went through this procedure, it would leave a sizeable "lost cluster" on the hard drive, and I know one guy who blundered into the area so often that he filled his hard drive with these and rendered his computer unusable. (Bear in mind that in those days, an average hard drive was about 50K!) I suspect the guy he called in had to take the disk out and slave it to another computer to tidy it up!
