But I have an old copy of the game (millenium version, well used). I've tried the fixes Bones mentioned, but they didn't work. My game performs the same as yours on my new machine (has WinXP home edition). I have two other computers also running WinXP, and the game works FINE on both of them with hardware acceleration OFF. But nothing works on the newest computer. However, I had concluded that the fault was with my disk and that the new computer didn't tolerate the scuffing on it from much use.
Now I see you have the same problem with a brand new disk. Hmmm...
Try running PCDoctor (or whatever you have that's similar) on the Play disk for MM8. See what you come up with - does it tell you the disk is good, or not?
For the record, my Play disk fails 3 of 4 tests on the new computer (but plays fine on all other computers (in fact, I just came from Balthazar Lair a moment ago, but on an old computer).
Please let me know the results of the diagnostic if you try it.
