The monks in that temple WANT you to have the wooden shield. Take it!
Accordingly, subtract 37 hit points from characters 1, 2, and 3; the chest blew up on you. I know, I know - you're an expert at disarm trap, but you know what? It wasn't enough. You needed three more points to not blow up the chest, and now you must suffer the consequences.
