The "cracks in the walls" can be experienced frequently in MM7. This seems to be a problem of the game logic and it cannot be fixed. The problem does not depend on the version and it is not caused of new versions of windows.
Even dragons can "enter" a wall. If it happens then you cannot fight the monster in the melee range. You can only hit the monster by a ranged weapon targeting the place where the monster has disappeared. You will be successful only from certain angles. Also, it you kill the monster, its loot is lost.
The monster has no chance to leave the "crack". If you need to get the monster out of the "crack" then you have to leave the local map and enter it again. All (currently alive) monsters will be reset and moved to their starting locations, including the monster in the "crack".
It can even happen that the monster moves so unlucky that it enters a "crack" regularly when you try to approach it (for example, one medusa in the Tunnels to Eofol). In this case, use invisibility, approach the monster, and force it to fight right now without moving anywhere.
