Yes, there is virtually no use for rar, except for that some people like to use it.

    The main reason I like it so much is because it's one of the veeeeery few formats that can store Linux permissions, mtime, ctime and atime ... and all that stuff. With the rest, you can be glad if it stores date of creation.
