I recently had to abandon an MM8 party when my savegame corrupted, and at present I have an MM6 level 8 party about to trek from New Sorpigal across Ironfist and Bootleg Bay to Free Haven in order to buy some better spells. After that, the inhabitants of the Temple of Baa in Ironfist are going to get a rude awakening *evil grin*. Although I might just hire a Gate Master, go straight to Free Haven, and clear Bootleg Bay and Ironfist out on the way back — the territories, that is, not the dungeons.

Of the later games, my favourite is MM6. I fully accept that in some ways MM7 is a better game, but the fact that you can't get a party with access to both Light and Dark magic killed it for me. But I still consider that the assault on The Pit with a Light Path party is probably the best single battle in the whole of the MM games.I always preferred magic-heavy parties. For MM7, APCS for the Light Path, and ACSS for Dark. For MM6, ACSS or occasionally ADSS with a modified druid — I still play the v1.0 MM6 game, and there are some "features" ( ) in that which allow the druid to learn the Mirrored Path magics, and indeed for a sorcerer to learn spear & sword etc. for that matter. For MM8, I usually start with either a necro or a cleric, and finish up with NCDVDe. Occasionally I'll start with a dragon — Ice provided two dragon-based starting positions years ago.

IMO, MM9 could have been one of the great MM games if only the suits had given the developers time to do it properly 12/28/2015, 06:23:37

different approaches ,comparing to MM6-8 .
Combat is a bit different .
Then class advancement -
1) Back to MM 6-7 : two promotions for character !
2) You have choice , for example choose mercenary or gladiator
etc !
3) You can't complete promotional quests for classes you don't have .
All in all MM6-8 looks good for me but sometimes you want play somewhat different might and magic to refresh your mind

You can't complete the promotional quests for some of the classes that you don't have, specifically priest and lich. With care, you can do all the others.I think the combat engine in MM9 is one of the best ever devised in the MM series. You can (just about) do the Chasm of the Dead with a party of ca. level 12, and still get enjoyment from doing it with parties of level up to about 35.

Im currently doing MM7 solo Sorc, more or less mid game and clvl 45. I quit KKKC in MM7 as too OP. I also diched my SSSS in MM6 for the very same reason. Once done with a solo sorc in MM7 I will start a solo sorc in MM6. Solo is a struggle sometimes, but I like it this way.
