Picked one up early on in the game, and it says it's a quest item. Anyone know what quest and where to get it/turn it in?

Possession of the flute (it only needs to be in a character's backpack - you may have to select him/her when you try and enter, I can't remember the details) gives you access to the NWC dungeon in the Plane between Planes. IIRC, look for an enormous sword-hilt buried in the ground. But there's nothing worth having in there.

the flute and what it's for, I still haven't gotten there yet, but I recently was given a tip to help me with the Plane of Fire. I have a Vampyre ... got told to use her levitation spell inside the plane to keep the 'ground' from harming me. Gonna try that next LOL

That's absolutely right.

    Peter2 writes:

You also need to be a bit careful about falling off the paths in there. The Plane of Fire is a network of raised paths above a sea of lava, and some of the paths are above maximum flying height, so if you fall off, you have to fly right back to the lower bits.

I presume there's a set of stairs (or the equivalent) somewhere for parties who don't have the Fly spell, but I've never looked for them so I can't tell you where they are.

You might also find the Castle of Fire interesting. It contains what I found to be one of the game's harder puzzles.

From the room where you enter, follow the raised path as it winds along upwards through the room shaped like a figure 8, until you enter an octagonal room. Just inside the entrance of this room, you will see a tall pillar with its top near the path you're on. Save your game here in case you fall. Then jump on to the top of this pillar, and it will sink to ground level. Then go back to the entrance room.

No, the Vault of Time is a different problem entirely. ***maxi-spoiler***

The Unicorn King holds the key to the Vault of Time, and he appears on only one day in the year - Midsummer's Day. Note that this is NOT the day of our Summer Solstice (that is June 21st); Midsummer's Day is June 24th. Also, he works office hours - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You'll find him somewhere just north of the Poison Well in the NW of Murmurwoods.

It's simple enough to do.

Once you're sure you have a good stable position, you save the game in a different savegame slot under a different name - I usually call them Backup 1, Backup 2, etc. Of course you also save the game in your usual savegame slot. I don't know if you use the Quicksave option, but I don't. I found it was more likely to corrupt the savegame.

on the same computer that might have to be reset to factory specs, which might wipe out everything I've installed (including MM8) since I got it? I thought you meant a way to save it off the comp so I don't lose it completely.

That can be done, too.

    Peter2 writes:

All you need to do is identify the savegame files and save them to a memory stick or something. The file are named save000.mm6, save001.mm6, save002.mm6 and so on.

Then copy them back on to your computer when you've cleaned it up.
