tried searching to see if there were any already posted, but didn't find anything. I need some tips on handling the ones who greet you at the elevator when you go down.

What level is your party?

I don't recall anything specific I had to do to deal with the opposition down there, but by the time I did the Planes, I had a pretty tough party. One recommendation is not to use Fire or Air spells, because the Boulders and Chargers are immune.

Do you know the best way to handle the spell Shrapmetal? Your necromancer should have it, and, used properly, it is the most destructive spell in the game. What you do is pick one opponent, rush up to it until you're right in contact range, and then hit Return to enter turn-based mode. Then cast the spell when your necro's turn comes up. If your necro has GM in Dark magic, he/she will cast 9 fragments of metal, each doing a minimum of 10(1d6+6) - an average of 95 - points of damage, and that single opponent will get the benefit of every last one of them. Even though your opponent's resistance will degrade the attack somewhat, there's not much that will stand up to that treatment for long.

If you can chop one opponent down before you have to run and heal, you can clear the position, although having to run and heal repeatedly will take quite some time and your party's armour will be in tatters by the time you've finished.

    I hope that helps!

No necro

I have a Champion at level 64, a Priest at 61 and then a Nosferatu, a Dark Elf and a Great Wyrm, all at 62. They're all at the top of their skill levels (if they can master, then they have that, or grand if they can do that) and have some pretty decent armor.
Part of the problem is that every single mob is right there at the elevator, and it's just overwhelming. And, can't get the elevator to go back up unless I get off it and then back on, and can't move because of the monsters.

I think we can do this.

As soon as the elevator opens, move forward, get into turn-based mode, pick one opponent, and do as much damage to him as you reasonably can. I emphasize the "reasonably", don't get anybody really far down on hit points. Then get right up against them, and use the great wyrm's Wing Buffet. That should give your party all the room they need to get out of the elevator and back again.

wing buffet didn't work at all ... nothing even twitched. Also, had a scroll for Souldrinker ... did absolutely nothing. I died ... however, I didn't save the game, so I have still have Souldrinker. Maybe I used it wrong?

My goodness! That's a real facer.

I've not used Wing Buffet all that often, but I've never known it not to work. I must confess I'm out of ideas, except for the obvious one of toughening up your party even more. I'll try and think some more about it and see if I can come up with anything else.

Die and retry. Finally got through it, and gained a couple of levels in the process. This is the farthest I've ever gotten in this game. Fire plane is next ... after I grind out a couple more levels, that is.

thing to remember in all fights, that could help you.

Or someone else reading this post - basic concepts in hard fights when fighting a mob:
1)First one is hardest to kill
For example fighting 7 monsters 1st one is hardest, because you suffer so much damage, and dont have enough time to deal damage. When you kill it, 2nd monster should be much easier, 3rd should be twice as easy as first one. So basic tip - kill 1 and go heal, then return and kill 2nd one, do so until you can stand against them without need to go back. It really shouldnt take much time, after 2nd-3rd ones.

2)Kill the weakest first - by killing weakest monsters first you reduce damage that you take in fight troughout and also you make fight easier for you, to not have to risk so much killing strong monster.

3)Use combat tactics like trying to confuse opponents - going behind corners where they cant see you, charming them, berzerking, using arrows from afar before entering melee combat(or fireballs before incinirates or whatever mages have there, i usually play might

3)If you tryed first three steps and you still cant kill the single monster - go to alchemist/magic item shop and get all scrolls/potions/wands you can get(like resistances, divine cures, berzerk, charm, enslave, power cure, wands of single/multiple target damage, paralysis, hour of power) and try again using all you have on first monster.

4)If still no luck maybe try to get some expirience and more levels and next time you come you wont have any trouble at all! There could be huge difference between level 25 and 27 while from first glance you might think its nothing much.

I hope that will be helpful to anyone else but original poster, i just remembered i am responding to half-a-year old post

That would work too, but there's no necro in the party.
