Okay, 2 things:
Been going through the game at lightning speed (well, IRL time at least; it's been at least 2 years ingame), past Regna, and I'm gathering artifacts/clearing up dungeons I haven't done. Now, I managed to land Elsenrail, and I was kind of hoping to get Glomenthal so my Elf could have a nice matched set. Problem is, when I try to cash in the Arcomange quest, Tonk refuses to believe me. I've checked my log, and I've won in every one of the taverns. I even checked the first 3 over again to make sure I had done them after getting the quest, in case that mattered. But no luck... is it bugged, or did I screw something up?Also, just kind of dreaming up ideas for a replay... how do you make custom parties? What editor do I need and how do I use it? I was thinking a party of 4 Necros and a Vampire might be entertaining.

about where you have been . . I assume you have been to Regna and sunk the fleet? Anyway, the best party editor is MM8CHE and is, I believe, dowloadable at this site somewhere. Chlala can give you the link. There is a small bug in MM8CHE. The path defaults to MMVII, so all you have to do is add another I to that and you are good to go.

Yes, I've sunk the fleet and am just tying up loose ends before I go to the planes. And according to my awards, I've won at every tavern; I've actually got some 30 or so wins from playing just for fun. Now I do have about 6 or so losses - I don't suppose there's some inherent requirement that you be undefeated, is there? And thanks, I'll look that up.

No requiremnt to be undefeated. To recap the Taverns: DWI - 1
Ravenshore - 2
Alvar - 2
Murmurwoods - 1
Garrot Gorge - 1
Ravage Roaming - 1
Regna - 1
Iron Sand - 1
Shadowspire - 1 I think these are all there are (11). But I did this from memory and at my age, my memory is not so good any more. Hopefully, however, I got them all. I your post you said there were 13, but I only rmewmber 13 in MM7, not 8, Again, memory could be at fault here also

Yeah, so apparently I can't add; missed the one in Ravage Roaming. Got a lovely matched set of swords now.

as someone who had finished solo
1 elf
2 necro
3 trollthat began solo cleric 4 necro and 1 vampire seem to easy
just begin with a necro get 1 necro and vampire on DWI
get another in shadowspire (maybe change vampire 2 ) so early in game with 3 necro and 1 vampire you need 1 party slot free for 2 quest

Meh 10/05/2009, 09:36:49

Qing Guang writes:
Eh, I'm not really shooting for challenge here, just roleplay. The idea would be that each one would be a different element (Fire would take Dark as well so she's not rendered entirely useless when fighting fire-resistant critter), while the Vampire would be the only healer (which I suppose means that, unlike my current melee Vampire, she won't have many points to spare for Dagger). I'll drop the vamp for the witness and temple quests. With the editor, is it possible to use one of the paperdolls from one class for a character of another? Say, use a Cleric or Knight in place of a Necromancer's doll?

As far as I know, you can't change the dolls, but 10/05/2009, 10:17:44

Zedd writes:
you can change the portraits, which will automatically change the voices also. I do this quite often when I use Cauri Blackthorn. I don't like her portrait and I absolutely hate her whining voice. You can use any portrait/voice on any character.

Radek writes:
Sure, it is possible. You can create a character (or hire one), save the game and edit the character using mm8che. Among others, you can change the doll to your liking. You can also edit skills - I often remove skills which I know I will not use with this character and return the skill points to the character's pool of available SP

I never notices that, does changing the portrait also change the doll as well as the voice? 10/05/2009, 10:34:32

Now that I've got it working... what happens if I give the characters a skill their class isn't supposed to have? Say, if I gave one of the necros Spear or something? Will it work, or will it crash the game or what? 'Twould be fun if each used a different weapon, and the lack of a decent trap disarmer or item repairer could prove a pain.

This goes for magic also.Even tho a Dark Elf, for exmple, can't GM elemental Magics but if you give your DE GM in an elemental skill, he/she can learn the GM spell for that skill.By the way, I gave you the answer to your problem with the saves lookupo in my first reply to your post above. The path defaults to MMVII and has to be change to MMVIII.

Alrighty, neato. Each chara's set to a different weapon now, and I've solved my Disarm Trap problem (decided to ignore Repair; getting along fine without it on the other game). And I found out that my problem wasn't what it was directing to - it was that I set it to look in the "Might and Magic VIII\Saves" folder instead of just the "Might and Magic VIII" folder. Peculiar, but whatever, it's out of the way now.

the thing about the game is swapping out party members. 10/06/2009, 14:42:34

Gamester writes:
so you can try them all. after sinking the ships, you can hire almost all. i like knights for dungeons and dragons for outside range combat. so i swap between knights and dragons.you can think of a four party team that can hire a fifth member. that seems to be the way the games was design to do.
