Save not working

I had just finished paladin quest and stolen thajorad in lindisfarn i went to thajorad after that handed the hammer in and leveled on the way to the arena i picked up a mercenary in the arena i went into the option of choosing the fight (with the guy you talk to) and then decided to save so i exited the window with the option of changing my mind once out of the conversation i saved but once i did it went to my desktop and there was just a steam window that said it wanted me to retry my internet connection (which wasnt on) i exited that tried to get back into my save it was there in the right place but when i went to go into it it started to load then said "problem loading save" and i cant get back into that one. in my save readable thing in the mm9 folder in program files it says the arena/lindisf or something similer to that please help (by the way it was lagging a little bit before i got in the monistery)
