Your own 4 characters can be accessed by pressing the numbers 1-4 on the keyboard. If the number you press does not belong to the highlighted character, pressing the number switches the highlight to that character. Now press the number again to access the character.Similarly, pressing 5, 6, or 7 switches the highlight to one of your NPCs, and another press accesses him/her. You should find an option there to fire the character, unless it is Forad Darre or Tamur Leng. You cannot fire these, they have to leave of their own accord.
