    Stålhand (aka Steelehand) writes:

Stålhand is actually my great-grandmother's maiden name. It comes with a real life family legend that somehow fits perfectly in the Might and Magic world. The story in the family is that the name Stålhand originated when a child was born out of wedlock, and since the father belonged to the noble family Stålhandske the child decided to use a shortened form of it when he/she grew up.

Well, the details of this story have been, as have most such legends, mixed up beyond recognition, as I discovered when I did some research on it. Her great-grandfather probably got the name when he worked in a menial capacity at the castle in Stockholm back in the 18th century, which is the only link to nobility I have found so far. Karolina's mother was actually born out of wedlock, but there is no reason to suspect that her father was a Stålhandske or that he belonged to the nobility.

Anyway, I had almost decided on another handle when it suddenly struck me how perfectly this story would fit in the MM world with just a small change. In the MM version the name was changed using Iron/Steele and Fist/Hand, I've upgraded to a royal relationship, and of course the connection is a lot closer than through a great-great-grandmother .

At first I wasn't sure if I should use Stålhand or translate it to Steelehand, and when I asked for advice in one tavern somebody used both versions and I decided that I really like having an alias.

Are you sorry you asked yet?
