As you've probablt noticed the red dots notify you about monsters or NPC's that are attacking you. Yellow dots mean monsters that haven't seen you yet or pottencially dangerous NPC's. Green dots are Friendly dudes and blue dots stand for treasures.
The 'T' sign means that whatever the symbol's color means, that particular thing is not on the same "floor" as you are, it can be above you or beneath you.
