I used a LOT of yarn. (This was back at 640 RAM, CGA, EGA, IBM-compatible, with a disc change at every map change, ergo lots of waiting time. I kept the project I was making in my lap, with needles, hooks, and yarn close by. I made afghans, sweaters, hats and mittens for Christmas gifts, as well as couch throws and quilts for Chez Elf.) When I started, in 1980-something, yarn came in skeins of so many ounces. After the law was passed that the U. S. would switch over to metric, the yarn switched over to grams. Since a 100-gram skein was very nearly equal to a 4-ounce skein, I had little difficulty in switching over. (Plus I'd had to learn metric in both high-school chemistry and high-school French.)
