It sounds as though the corrupted area is Sturmford City, so this is what you do. Quit the game, open Windows Explorer, find the MM9 folder (it's probably in a folder named 3do), open the subfolder called Minisaves, and delete all files that begin with "sturmfordcity". Then open the game again, load your most recent save in Beet Hoven, and try re-entering the town again.
