You only had to cope with miles, yards, feet, and inches. (We'll leave aside fathom, rod, pole, perch. furlong, etc.) You at least had dollars and cents, whereas I grew up with guineas, pounds, shillings, and pence, not to mention the occasional groat which turned up from time to time. £.s.d., Librae, solidi and denarii — 20 shillings to the pound (£), 12 pence (d) to the shilling (s). A guinea was 21 shillings and a groat was 4 pence (d not p).
