I grew up in a hilly part of the country, but we didn't get heavy snow often enough or for long enough to make it worth the expense for people to set up properly to cope with it. Consequently we found snow to be nothing more than an unmitigated nuisance, especially considering that our house was on a 1 in 8 (12.5%) hill. With the climate change over the past 50 years or so, this is even more true than it was then.
