Despite all its flaws, I love this state. I think I just had too much campaigning lately.
Forgot to mention another peril for us intrepid Valley people (not Valley Girl type Valley people, they're down around Los Angeles in its nearby San Fernando Valley.) The heat and aridity has furnished us with another thing: black widow spiders. They're not aggressive, unless provoked. Trouble is, putting your hand in a dark, warm place (inside electric meter boxes or cupboards in garages, for example,) is construed as provocation by the industrious widows. They very, very seldom fatal, unless you're very young or very old--yikes! But a widow bite is no fun at all. Papa Elf had one about 50 years ago. We all are VERY cautious. We've killed two this month. (I hate to kill spiders, since they eat so many harmful critters, but I draw the line at black widows.)
