Original Message:   Safety in Stockton
Actually, we Elves are bordering on paranoia, which as someone said, doesn't mean someone isn't out to "get" you. There's a streetlight about 5 meters from our front door, and we very seldom go out after dark in the spring and summer. (Our local mosquito abatement district reports that mosquitoes carrying west Nile virus have been found in our county.) It's still "summer" here, since our daytime temperatures are still around 90°F. (Come to lovely, sunny California--where summer lasts from May to November, real estate is about the most costly in the U. S., taxes are highest, homeless people can be found on most streets, and we're still paying around $6.40 a gallon for gas. We are also a "sanctuary" state, which has been misinterpreted to mean that illegal immigrants cannot be turned over to the Immigration Dept., even if caught in a violent crime. {Actual case.]) We also have wrought-iron bars over all the windows and doors, and security lights and cameras. Paranoia is alive and well, and living in California's Central Valley.
