I keep a back-up savegame file every 10 levels or so, and that has been adequate. It doesn't corrupt often. I've played the game literally dozens of times, and I reckon I've had less than 5 corruption events. As long as I make sure to set a Lloyd's Beacon beyond the door in Gharik's Lab that you open with the key, I have never had any gameplay issues apart from:- (1) if I play on a fast modern computer, I do not always get a name and profession when I hover the cursor over an NPC, and (2) again, if I play on a fast modern computer, some of the Easter Eggs don't appear, notably the ones hidden in the pews of the Silver Helms' chapels.
