Another funny tale: Note – In some contexts, the word "pronounced" means "judged to be".

In 1931, Noel Coward put on a play called "Cavalcade". There was a certain amount of controversy about this play, and some critics thought it would be a flop. Apparently, there was a lot of discussion about it in the newspapers, discussing the various different opinions, and some of the discussion got quite heated. When the play proved to be a hit at the box-office, it was considered newsworthy, and there was a story about a Frenchman who crossed the Channel to England, and saw a headline in a newspaper that read "Cavalcade Pronounced Success". So he turned around and sailed back to France . . .
