A good part of that I suspect is that they do energy damage. Which I don't think gets reduced by resistance, so they always do full damage (16D8, or an average of 72 damage per blast). That can add up fast, even when you have HP in the thousands. I can clear the Arena and Dragonsands using melee weapons only but I still have to repair frequently and my party is at level 836. Using shrapmetal is far easier. --Chandor
