Elf, I've just been up to the Isle of Islay, and sampled one of their new scotches. They started a new distillery at Kilchoman a few years ago, and their "Machir Bay" in my opinion shows promise. This one's a bit young yet and so lacks the complexity and depth of flavour that will come with further ageing, but it also doesn't have the nasty raw edge that some of the young Islay malts suffer from. However, it's also overpriced at present – £40 is a lot for a 4-5 year old malt. I'll try one of the older ones in about 5 years' time and see how it's coming along.
