Nerding, maybe ... if talking about hexeditors is nerdy. (For your orientation: a hexeditor is a program which basically views files as a series of numbers. Good for looking in various files of various games, because those files are just bunch of numbers (as opposed to text files, which are meant to be read by human).) Trolling? Don't know what you mean with that, mostly because everyone understands trolling as something different. But I would say no, or at least I wasn't trying to do something negative.

Numbers are not in base 10 (that means using numbers from 0-9), but in base 16 (numbers from 0-9, after which are numbers A-F). Base 16 numbers are for various reasons far more suitable to those things.
