There are also the side-effects of Reputation. It governs which peasants will talk to you or join your party, for example, and a notorious rep may have other effects. I don't know what they all are in this game, but in MM7, for example, a notorious party will find coach travel VERY expensive, and IIRC calling at a Town Hall will result in immediate imprisonment.
