Your reputation nosedives. The problem is that the quests and tasks that boost your reputation are strictly limited, whereas those that lower your rep are not. Also, as time passes, all reputations tend towards average. By the end of the game, the best you can do is throw money at the priests in one of the "good" temples. That way, you'll get your rep up to honourable, but that's as much as you can do without hiring a couple of bards. I don't generally bother - I don't think I've ever completed an MM6 game with a rep higher than average. Fame is not the same as reputation!
