They estimate that about 45% of all emails sent are spam, and I suspect that's far less than the number of attempts to post on boards like these. I remember opening my mailbox one morning and finding over 900 posts waiting to be read. And that was nothing compared to what happened to my wife's mailbox. When the spammers found her address, IIRC she was receiving emails at a rate of about 80 per minute. We had to abandon that address completely.
