Original Message:   Dark Messiah Single player campaign Review
Alright folks here goes. I've had it two days, have played it hard and think I'm ready to give you the lowdown.

To give you some background, I've played CRPGs for 15 years and pen and paper D&D before that. All the way through Times of lore, Drakkhen, Stonekeep, Dungeon Master. The early M&M's, and the "Krynn" games. More recently Baldurs gate, Icewind etc.

My first observations were it takes a LONG time to install this beast. Fairly complex with a lot of third party software going in too, if you want multiplayer (I don't). Regardless, you must have an internet conection to get it to work.

My initial impressions were that it looks nice, I like the animations of the enemies and of your guy. Combat is pretty pleasant with a good addition in the kick function. Think oblivion/morrowind.

The nearest game to compare it to in looks and feel is Dungeon Lords, to which it is VERY similar. The next point is, there are 9 chapters in the game. I'm well into chapter 3 so I'm a third of the way through. So I assume I'll finish it in a week?. It's not a long game.

I also have to say this, it is not Might and Magic. Not as I know it. it is also not a Roleplay game. Each session I play I feel less and less enamoured of it. It has a strong platformer feel to it. It relies far too much on having to time jumps exactly to get to the next place you want to go to (for example). I had to reload the ghoul chase section in chapter two many many times, it wasn't fun just frustrating.

Character development is very dumbed down and character creation (which I love) is non existent. My biggest gripe, apart from the fact it's a platform game is how linear it is. You have absolutely no control over where to go or what to do, which I hate. You know I think I'm going to sell it. Ah well Neverwinter 2 comes out soon....

So out of 10

Gameplay- 5 Replayability - 3 Graphics -7 Sound - 6 Roleplayability - 2

Overall- 4

Any questions?, or anyone want it?.
