Sorry for being absent over the weekeend, but I just got a hold of GT2, a new racing game for PlayStation that mysteriously has consumed all my time since I came into contact with it. Even right now, as I type, I can almost hear revving of engines and....well, enough of that, eh?

CGO has posted part 2, 3 and 4 of their MM8 preview, which has brought forth a lot of new info and screenshots. As a consequence, both the Links and FAQ and Screens pages have been updated. And I've noticed that both Dragon and AndrewP has had MM8 questions answered by Producer Peter "Zoop" Ryu at the 3DO community.

I trust you met our new doorman, the Minotaur, already. He's a nice guy - really, he is ; ).

You might have noticed that I have removed the bottom frame, since it wasn't really doing anything but taking up space. Thanks a mill. for the constructive feedback from the the Tavern regulars! ; )

Also added a legend to the Links page, that explains how the icons work.

Perhaps I should add that I've been working on adding both a poll and a keyword search feature to the site, but the people who run the actual servers for this site are having some trouble with CGI scripts right now. They have promised me that they're working on it.

Oh, and if you're into Heroes of Might and Magic, you'll almost certainly be interested in this picture : )

Updated the Links page with The Sorceror's Tower, Cool Jerk's new MM8 message board. Go see!

And while I was there, I added something I have wanted to do for a long time: Icons, that lets you control *how* to open the link - filling the whole window, in a new window or staying in the frames. I don't know about you, but I think it's neat ; )

Not much news on MM8 is surfacing right now, since Zoop is out of town for the weekend. I just read on Avault that the lead programmer on the engine for MM9, LithTech, has left MonoLith to join Half-Life developers Valve. Let's hope it doesn't influence the development of the engine ; )

DOH! It seems the infobit below is really about a completely new Might and Magic spinoff game, not about MM9. Sorry folks! Sometime I'm too quick for my own good. It was posted by the designer of Legends of M&M, Christian....I'm really sorry, people : (

The good news of the day is that Zoop is looking into making a downloadable movie from MM8. Details are posted in the Tavern.

Since this site came up, I've been searching high and low for other MM8 sites. I finally succeded - go to the Links page and see what I found.

Our Tavern got a new look today. All new background, logo and buttons to make it fare better with the new colors and logo of the main page.

And then we stumbled upon this rather special piece of news about the online sequel to MM8 (yup, that's MM9 we're talking about, people! *see correction in entry above*):

When the research of ancient artifacts leads to an accident that transports the King’s royal advisor, Zephram Dagrath, to another world, it is up to Prince Golwyn and his five most trusted companions (the six playable characters in Legends) to find a way to bring him home. But by the time they reach him, Zephram has become obsessed with reconstructing an artifact of such power that it would grant him near-omnipotence. The players, under the guidance of a strange shaman named Teldran, must travel to the many worlds of Might and Magic in an effort to prevent Zephram from achieving his goal, thereby protecting their very existence and fulfilling a prophecy foretold by the Ancients over a thousand years before.

Their destiny... to become "Legends of Might and Magic" - the first ever multiplayer Action/RPG set in the Might and Magic universe.

This rather intriguing albeit brief story was posted by a "greenie" (i.e. a 3DO employee) at the 3DO Community.

The Official 3DO MM8 site is up! This means that we have been able to add some screenshots! : )

I've have been tweaking the look of the page somewhat, originally with the intent of making it look OK in 256 colors. I've given up on that ; ), and instead made a new logo (from 3DO's MM8 logo, of course), added texture to the background and changed the border colors. I hope you all like it (to those who run 256 colors I can only say that I'm sorry, but I couldn't make it. Believe me, I tried).

It seems almost everybody likes the new layout, and that is as much as I could hope for, I guess. We will probably be adding a subtle texture to the main text area, but other than that, this is pretty much it. I've updated the FAQ page with new info from Zoop, and added an index at the top.

Lots of good news today! First, we got a new layout! As you will have noticed by now, I've changed the design quite a bit (the only thing left is actually the "spooky" guy in the top right corner) for a couple of reasons:

      • I've introduced frames because it's *so* much easier to maintain a menu that way.
      • The horizontal menu leaves more room in the main text area (here) for big tables, such as Bones' MM7 Monster-list.
      • I've changed the background of the main text area to a somewhat lighter color. Some people really liked it, while others hated it. I hope this one doesn't cause too much disagreement ; )

I hope (most of) you will appreciate this change. As always, your opinion is more than welcome in the Tavern.

In other good news, we (T.E.L.P) just accepted a new member! We are very pleased to have Tavern wise man LeCid join our humble party. Give him a big round of applause, everybody!

Finally, we've added a Contact page, where you can e-mail us directly from within your browser. It's normally accessed via the About page.

Been working on a completely new layout. It seems the opinions on the matter of the brown/black color scheme are differing somewhat. Some like it, some hate it. I really don't know what to do... I think I'll let it be while I fiddle with the other for while, and see where it takes me.
Oh, and I got a hold of the January issue of the CGW magazine (affiliated with the website Gamespot). It has a rather interesting article on Might and Magic VIII and IX. Among other things, it states that...

      • DotD is *not* being considered a sequel or an expansion to MM7, and that it won't be numbered (guess I'll have to make a new logo, then - again ; )).
      • It definitely will use the same engine as MM7, but with tweaks such as the widescreen mode and "mouse look" (traditionally a found in first person shooters, meaning that you control your view by mouse movement).
      • NWC is putting a lot of effort into making elaborate backgrounds for NPCs, so your interaction with them will be more believable and affect gameplay more.
      • You'll be playing a "bad guy" or on the dark side, as we've come to know it from MM7 (this is sure to please at least one guy in our Tavern ; )).

...the FAQ has been updated accordingly. In other Might and Magic news, I just read on Daily Radar (affiliated with PC Gamer), that Crusaders of Might and Magic *will* get a sequel - at least for the PSX.

Made a small button for Zad's storymill.com on the front page. Updated the FAQ again with new info from PC Gamer (as stated in the 3DO Community by Belhawk).
• January 3rd, 2000 [by Caspar] :
New logo. I'm not sure I'm completely satisfied, but it'll have to do for now. Updated the FAQ. Trying on a new messageboard, this one from boardhost.com. Which reminds me, I have to do a Tavern logo! Added the "eXtreme" counter to the front page. I don't like the way it looks, but it should perform quite well.
I think I'll announce this place to the MM7 Tavern tomorrow. Oh, and BTW, I got all the christmas presents just in time, so don't feel too sorry for me ; ).
• December 20th, 1999 [by Caspar] :
Reworked the layout, so the table's now 100% wide. It seemed a shame to let all that space (when you run 1024x768, of course) go to waste, and I know we'll need it at some point. I'll need to do a new logo, since it really seems far to small now. Added the Tavern, FAQ, Links and About pages! I think I'll try and upload it...
Oh, and Christmas is approaching, and I haven't bought a single present yet...

The site is up! We still have only got 6 menu items and nothing more than the index and this page -- but we're getting there : )
