The chests here do reset. Items you place inside will not be safe. We hope you haven't found this out the hard way, as many others have. Annette wrote us so that we could warn you.
You can safely store anything in the packs of the poor lost souls waiting at the Adventurers' Inn for someone to hire them. Since you are apparently the only employer in the region, they'll always be there when you return.
