Imaging the world of MM7, with possibly a new ending?

    Hello all,

This may not be your usual post about Mods or game questions, and seeks rather to penetrate to the heart of the game...capture its spirit, oh and help with out with a bit of trouble.

I'm writing up a DnD campaign (for those not familiar, first, get so, and second well...what are ya doing here??) loosely based on the MM7 adventure i love so well. of course with a different mechanic comes a different game, but i don't really worry about that, its the world i love and want to bring to life for the players, who in this day and age, are unlikely ever to get there the old fashion way. through the game that is.

however, i confess i don't really like the plot we have been given, specifically the sci-fi. at any rate it seems out of place with the grand conflicts of the world, which our four adventurers, being from, would actually care about. as such i am trying to remaster the plot a little, to give our players some new choices...more impact from their decisions and actions, and inevitably, a more satisfying conclusion. however, with that vision in mind. i have run up against a wall. how to do that? i have vague ideas floating in my head: more intrigue from the ironfist family perhaps? rekindling of the conflict between the temples of the sun and the moon? infiltrating, rather than kicking in the door, of the new enemy once they pick a side? the game screams with flavorful possibilities. so i turn to you all.

any ideas? or suggestions, curses and cries of "blasphemer" are always welcome as well, of course. i am looking for ways to make the flavorful history come alive for the players, and to have them make history as it is written, most importantly ways to connect things and decisions in a large, intriguing and engaging web. anything at all you wishes you could do...but could not. or would suggest i avoid? any comments of all sorts or suggests are welcome.

hope i have not wasted your time.
