Easier, certainly, but I wouldn't say that necessarily means "better"

First of all, "Paralyze" is a wonderful combat spell, and it can be learned by anybody who can learn Light Magic. Obviously, in the vanilla game, it cannot be learned at all by a Dark Path character.

Second, the battle for a Light Path party to clear The Pit is IMHO one of the best battles in any of the Might & Magic games, and a Dark party misses out on that.

We had a long debate years ago about whether or not the Dark Path was in fact evil. If you think back to the actions of the Judge when the choice is made, he doesn't make an evil decision, he makes no decision at all. The attitude is "let them sort it out themselves." As Arthur Clough said:
Thou shalt not kill; but needst not strive
    Officiously to keep alive

Whether this approach is evil is debatable. It can be argued that, all other things being equal, not to do good is evil, but it's by no means a foregone conclusion. In RPG terms, it's a lot closer to "neutral."
