But that does not infer that the technique is broken. In order to qualify as broken, it must enable some overpowered strategy. Perhaps we agree and we're only discussing terminology.
I also ran out of gold in MM5, but MM7 (and MM6) is played by a different set of rules. And I will wager that e.g. a dragon or a titan flies/walks about with more gold than you need to convert the XP its worth into levels. At least if you sell its item(s). Running out of gold is not an issue as I see it. Even without M or GM merchant.
