I started using a controller for this game, and I discovered a few tricks. 01/27/2009, 17:47:48 |
Basically, I use software that remaps my controller buttons to keystrokes or keystroke combinations. This has some pretty high potential to "correct" parts of the game control that always bothered me. Here are some examples: -- "C, Esc, Tab, C, C" If you press this button when moving around normally, the first four strokes don't seem to register, and all it does is take you to the spellbook (the second C is necessary, as the first one never seems to go through). If pressed while in the spellbook, it allows you to cycle through the spellbooks of all active party members (it REALLY pissed me off that the game never allowed you to do this). As an added bonus, this command also allows you to access the spellbook directly from your inventory. --- "Release Shift), Esc, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, Esc, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, I" This pulls up the inventory if any party members are active (that last key is the letter i). If nobody is active, it does nothing. The second set of commands is necessary so that the inventory can be accessed directly from the spellbook or another sub-menu (like quick reference). The first command tells the game to release the Shift key if I'm holding it to run, otherwise this command does not seem to work properly. I also have "Release Shift" commands added to my attack and quickspell buttons, so that I don't suffer the recovery penalty for running. --- "1, 2, 3, 4" I affectionately refer to this one as the "Item Dump". Its use is simply to take an item in my possession and stick it in the first place in any of my characters' inventories that it will fit. --- That's really the major ones. I have a few smaller ones, like combining "Fly Up" with Jump, "Fly Down" with Activate, and "Land" with "Look Forward" to save on controller real estate, but I really wouldn't consider those "tricks". |
