If you're fighting creatures that can't shoot back you can also enter turn based mode to ensure that your arrows don't miss. If you have lots of space you can even outrun your enemies in turn based mode (or keep them at the same distance) if you turn around and move forward and away instead of moving backwards when you get your 5 steps.In real time mode lots of solo play has also taught me to hold my fire once in a while and wait for them to get into a position where I have a chance of hitting them (e.g. when they make a turn in their zig-zagging towards you or if they are about to walk into a wall in a dungeon).
