The game would crash, and lock up the computer to the extent that the only way out was to turn the power off. After you turned it back on and rebooted, you then had to go hunting for the lost data chains that the crash had left. If you didn't clear these out, eventually they would fill your disk, and the computer wouldn't boot at all due to lack of free disk space. Great fun! Things like that taught me a lot about the early DOS-based computers.
